Light, flaky tilapia braised to perfection with a bright, tangy lemon-caper sauce—an effortless dish with elegant flavor. Perfect for a fresh and summery meal!
Prep Time: 10 | Total Time: 25 | Serves: 4
Ingredients
4 tilapia fillets, about 6 oz each
2 tablespoons butter
2 shallots, thinly sliced
1 cup low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth
1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice, about 2 lemons
2 tablespoons capers, rinsed and drained
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped, plus extra for garnish
salt and black pepper, to taste
Lemon slices for garnish
Instructions
Step 1
Pat the tilapia fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
Step 2
Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the shallots and sauté for 2-3 minutes, until softened and translucent.
Step 3
Pour in 1/4 cup (60 ml) dry white wine and let it simmer for about 1-2 minutes, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
Step 4
Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and lemon juice. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
Step 5
Stir in the capers, then carefully place the tilapia fillets into the skillet. Spoon some of the liquid over the fish. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the fish cook for 6-8 minutes, or until it flakes easily with a fork.
Step 6
Remove the skillet from the heat. Sprinkle the chopped parsley over the fish and spoon some of the sauce over it for added flavor.
Step 7
Carefully transfer the tilapia to a serving dish. Garnish with extra parsley and lemon slices. Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes, such as steamed vegetables, rice, or roasted potatoes.
