These cookies take a classic favorite and make it irresistibly rich. Browning the butter adds a deep, nutty flavor that transforms the entire dough, giving each cookie a warm, toffee-like aroma. The centers stay soft and tender while the edges bake to a delicate crisp, and every bite is studded with melty chocolate. They’re simple to make, wonderfully indulgent, and the kind of cookie that disappears the moment they hit the cooling rack.
Ingredients
• 1 cup butter
• 34 cup brown sugar
• 3/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
• 2 eggs
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 3/4 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat and continue cooking until it begins to foam and the milk solids turn golden brown. Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
In a large bowl, combine the browned butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar, mixing until smooth and creamy. Add the vanilla extract, then beat in the eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated.
Add the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix until a dough forms, then gently fold in the chocolate chips.
Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space for spreading. Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
