Updated: Jan 31

A vibrant, tangy-sweet sauce with a citrusy twist, perfect for holiday meals or as a flavorful spread.

Prep Time: 5 mins | Total Time: 20 mins | Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries

  • ¾ cup sugar, adjust to taste

  • ½ cup fresh orange juice, from about 2 oranges

  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

  • ½ cup water

  • Pinch of salt

  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon cinnamon or 1 tablespoon Grand Marnier for added depth

Instructions

Step 1

Rinse the cranberries thoroughly and set them aside. Zest and juice the oranges, reserving both the zest and juice.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, orange juice, water, orange zest, and a pinch of salt. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar fully dissolves.

Step 3

Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir in the cranberries. Let them simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring frequently, as the cranberries pop and the mixture begins to thicken.

Step 4

For an extra flavor boost, stir in optional ingredients like cinnamon or a splash of Grand Marnier. Cook for an additional 1–2 minutes, then remove the saucepan from the heat.

Step 5

Allow the sauce to cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
