This peppermint mocha is rich and warming, with smooth chocolate and coffee balanced by a subtle note of peppermint. The flavors are familiar and comforting, with just enough mint to add freshness without overpowering the drink.

Served hot and finished simply, it’s an ideal winter beverage — equally suited to slow mornings or an afternoon pause. Thoughtful and restrained, this is a peppermint mocha that feels classic rather than overly sweet.

Ingredients

1 cup milk, dairy or plant-based

½ cup strong brewed coffee or 1–2 shots espresso

 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

 1 tablespoon sugar

2–3 hard peppermint candies or 1 standard candy cane

2 tablespoons chocolate chips or chopped chocolate, optional

 Whipped cream, for topping

Crushed candy cane or chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the cocoa powder, sugar, and peppermint candies. Whisk occasionally as the peppermints melt into the milk — this takes about 2–4 minutes.

  2. Once melted, add the brewed coffee or espresso and the chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and steaming.

  3. Pour into your favorite mug and finish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of crushed candy cane or chocolate shavings. Serve immediately while warm and cozy.
